Abstract

This study is conducted in order to investigate the generic awareness of reading strategy use of students and state the types of reading strategies used by them while performing a reading task. The students responded to a 45-item scale that included three categories of reading strategies; before, during and after. The findings obtained in this study indicated that the overall usage-level of the designated reading strategies were at a medium frequency-level; therefore, it revealed that the students use the designated strategies but not necessarily enough. On the other hand, the overall frequency of before-reading strategy use was found to be highest among three categories, so it indicated that the students are generally conscious of their comprehension process and they are planned before performing a reading task. Keywords: Reading, Reading Comprehension, Awareness of Reading Strategy
